  1. Joseph says:

I think the person’s body in the top-left picture is at around 90 degrees. The angle between his upper right arm and lower right arm is around 45 degrees. The angle between his upper left arm and left right arm is around 135 degrees. I think angles are important in diving because they can help you enter the water smoothly so you don’t hurt yourself.

  2. Armelle says:

In gymnastics they need turns to
make it look difficult and to show
    off everthing they can do.
I think her angle is about 163.

  3. Imogen says:

On the photo with a gymnast wearing a purple leotard the main angle is her, bending her body. I estimate it is roughly 215° as a reflex angle. Her arm ,her left one, that is not quite straight, I think, as the obtuse angle it is approximately 165°. The angle that is her hair and along her arm, is 80°.

Many athletes use angles with their body: to be stylish, to accomplish tasks such as flips and summersaults, to be strong in football, karate, shot put and many other sports and to do anything; you are always at an angle even when not moving.

  4. Merley says:

This homework was a really good idea, but is there a 100word challenge for today?
I am doing the Tom Daley picture, he is a Team GB diver.

    1. I think his dive is about the angle is about 90 degrees.( My estimate)
    2. Now that I have looked closer I now see that is just under 90 degrees it is about
75 degrees because it is not a qaurter of 360 degrees.
    3. Tom Daley uses angles in his sport because otherwise he would never be able to do a really cool dive again or a 360 sumersalt so thats why Tom Daley loves using angles. I hope he learnt about them at school!

Just adding on to the 3rd question I think all Athletes and people use angles and turns because we are always doing turns
were ever we go if I for instance was facing upwards I would be in the angle of 0 degrees . But Athletes use angles more importantly because if you were in a diving shape all your body would be concentrating in the angle you are meant to be in.

I HAVE LEARNT A TONE OF A LOT OF MATHS AND CONNECTIONS( Olympics and Maths)

Thank you for the COOL homework!!!!!!!

P.S ( Next time try and make it not Maths, just joking its good for my learning)

  5. Anna W says:

My Homework is on the man doing the hammer throw ,he leans back and spins to gain speed before throwing the hammer the furthest he can. In the photo he is leaning back so the angle in front of him, to the ground, is obtuse which is about 110 degrees. So the angle behind him is acute and around 70 degrees.

  6. Rafi says:

    In the Hammer Throw,
You need to rely on the momentum you gain from turning round and round. Overall they complete three turns before the release the hammer therefore turning at an angle of 1080 degrees! It is very hard to estimate an angle for an Olympic sport because one minute they could be in any position and the next they could be standing still! Plus, even when athletes or gymnasts are staying in the same angle, you can’t really go on the pitch with a protractor in your hands asking them to not move a muscle!
This homework was very thought stimulating and left me with questions still buzzing around in my head:

    1. How did you come up with the idea for this homework?
    2. Why are there more angles in Olympic sports being used instead of turns?
    3. Do you have to rely on angles and turns in an Olympic sport?

If you could answer these that would be great! Thank you very much for the homework this week.

  7. Mia says:

Lots of different sports man use different skills using different angles and turning in different ways. For example the male gymnast on the pommel horse is at a 30 – 45 degree angle from the pommel horse.Hockey players have to get the right angle from the stick to the ball to hit it correctly. In sports silly as it sounds you need angles, strategically or positioning or movement.

  8. Alice says:

    1. I think the in the picture in the top right (Hammer throwing) he is holding the hammer at a 75 degree angle.
    2. When he turns around, he spins around 360 degrees 3 times. This makes it 1080 degrees in total.
    3. The hammer thrower use angles when he spins around. This helps him to get enough momentom to throw the hammer a great distance.

That was a very interesting homework!

  9. Can says:

in the gynastics photo I think she is more or less between 160 and 170 degrees

  10. Jake says:

In the picture of the person doing the karate, I think that his right leg is around a 180 degree angle. In karate, you need to be very cocentrated and you need to be low to the ground therefore a lot of angles are created in both your arms and you legs. Also when you punch you need to punch, usually you punch to the chest, therefore creating a 45 degree angle. however when you attack to the head, if you look from a side perspective; you would see that, that also had a 45 degree angle. Most angles in karate are acute, however, in certain instances your body will need to adjust to an obtuse angle. Also his head is at a slight angle, as I said previously, at a side perspective it looks around 40-50 degrees to me.

  11. Louis CB says:

Picture descprition: The gymnast at the bottom left corner.
I like this photo because it is taken at an unnerving perspective, clicking the switch in your mind that she could snap at any unfortunate moment. Even though she has been practising for months, it is still very distracting to watch something so immaculate.
Q1. The angle between the gymnast’s leg and the head (the curved part) is at least 120 degrees. She must be pretty elastic!
Q2. The gymnast uses her angles to curve over a burden, which can reach to heights like 3metres. They run from a long distance and use a special technique to flip themselves over the plastic pole.
I do not understand the 2nd question.

  12. Freya says:

In gymnastics you certainly need angles because you have to do certain things for example, for the splits you have to go down to 180 degrees. Angles often appear in other sports such as diving because you have to make a clear entrance so you don’t hurt yourself!

  13. laila says:

The picture with the gymnast I estimate is about 163 deggres .The gymnast uses her body very well she makes it look
very difficult and hard and tries to show of her experience and understanding in gymnastics she also uses her body
to attainment flips and handstands .

  14. Maud says:

I am guessing that the top right picture of the man doing the hammer throwing, his angle could be around 74 degrees. Athletes need to understand angles because it can often affects their winning. A diver needs to know the best angle to hit the water because of the water resistance. The hammer thrower, needs to find the best angle to throw the hammer, for it to go the longest distance. A high jumper needs to know the best angle to give him/her the highest height. Even a runner needs to know what angle his/her leg should be at, to produce the fastest speed.

  15. Harry says:

In the diving (top left corner) I think that he’s rotating his body aproximately around 70 degrees at the most. Divers need to turn because they need to land in the water head first and point to a different angle of witch trick or witch angle there aming to deposit therselves in the diving pool.

This was my favorite picture because I liked how the man mmade an arch as he was diving

  16. Louis S says:

In the picture of the man throwing the discus (the one under the hockey players) there are a few angles. Between his left arm and his body, I think that there is an angle of 75 degrees, making it an acute angle, and between his right arm and his body, I think that there is an 115 degree angle, making it an obtuse angle. Between his body and his legs, I think that the angle is just more than a right angle, so about a 95 degree angle, making it an obtuse angle. A discus thrower uses angles to succeed by A) angling his aim of the discus as he throws it to achieve maximum distance, and B) angling his body to spin himself as fast as he can to maximise the speed he throws the discus.

  17. Jessica says:

    Hi,
I have chosen the hockey player for my homework. Hockey players need to use angles a lot, as they make the ball go left, right, forwards or backwards. You also need to be streamlined if you want to be fast, and the bigger the angle of the stick from the floor, the harder you have hit the ball (usually!)
I estimate that the angle between the hockey player’s legs is about 60 degrees and between his left leg and the stick it is about 80 degrees. The angle between the flag and the floor is approx 70 degrees and between his right foot and his leg it is 95 degrees. His back is straight horizontal (180 degrees) and his arm is bent 100 degrees. The curve at the tip of the hockey stick is 90 degrees.
I really liked this homework, but next time please can you make the more detailed pictures larger so it is easier to estimate.
    Thank you.
    😀

  18. Zoe says:

1.I think in the top left pitchure the angle between his leg and his arm is rufly 90 degrees.
2.The gymnast angle between her right arm is about 75 degrees.
When athleets twist and turn the always use angles to make it look good.

  19. Ella says:

The picture I chose was the man at the bottom on the pommell horse.
His angle to the pommell horse is about 30 degrees.
In gymnastics there are lots of angles for different moves.
Like Freya said you have to be 180 degrees to do a really good splits.

  20. Jamie says:

I think the Diver is doing a 45o dive in the air because he is about halfway between vertical and horizontal dive

I think the Karate Kick guy is doing a 25 degrees kick in the air because his leg is very close to horizontal but just above.

  21. Jamie says:

And the diver is curving his body to get a streamlined positioned shape to enter the water.

And the Karate guy is pointing his leg to have swift and presentable movement and to direct his kick more at the other person

    Sorry I accidently pressed Post!

  22. Anna says:

I chose the martial arts man. I think the angle of his punch is about 45 degrees and the angle between his leg and head is about 90 degrees. Tennis players, I think use angles most because they have to know what angle to put there racket at to make the ball go the right way. Also they need to know how much swing to put on it.

  23. Alex C says:

I agree with Joseph, that I think Tom Daley in the far left is around 90 degrees and his upper right arm and lower right arm is 45 degrees and his upper left arm and lower arm is 135 degrees. Angles are great because it can be really impressive and it shows how flexible you are.

  24. liam says:

I agree with alex and joseph
