The appearance of a strange door without handles sets your mystery going. I could imagine so many people would want to know what lies behind the door. The question becomes, will there be some dark Pandora’s Box experience or will an even greater mystery begin?
I can see you’ve emphasised, “wait, think, observe, then look around”. This can be the key in life to keep us safe. An old saying tells us fools rush in where angels fear to tread. The saying has the same meaning. We need to be able to think before we act in many situations.
There are a few minor punctuation/spelling errors in your story. I know, from my own writing, they are so easy to make when you are keen to write down an interesting story. I find I even have to reread comments on blogs a few times to find my mistakes. This time I found I had made five errors I’ve now corrected.
