Oh my goodness, your post makes me think of Raold Dahl’s writing and how he puts together all of the most terrible things he can think of, and kids just love to read his books. You certainly painted a very vivid picture! My kids in the US do not know what custard is. If they read your description here, I doubt if they would ever want to try it. 🙂 It was also clear that the writer and her grandmother did not like one another very well.
